Letter: Abutters not equally represented on board
Sudbury Town Crier, Thursday, July 28, 2005

TO THE EDITOR:

In a letter to the editor in the July 21 issue of the Town Crier, the co-chairs for the Rail Trail (Advisory) Committee, Pat Brown and Richard Williamson, stated that "three abutters were appointed " to the committee by the Board of Selectman. This information is incorrect. To my knowledge, there presently is only one abutter on the RTCAC. In fact, only two abutters were appointed to the committee in the first place. Only one remains, as one abutter resigned from the committee early in the process.

While all residents of Sudbury are, indeed, welcome to attend RTCAC meetings and many have done so, only the appointed members are able to to speak during meetings, to propose agenda items, and to vote. Given this very limited representation, it does raise serious doubt that abutter issues will be given their just weight during the the RTCAC decision making process. In addition, abutter concerns are only heightened by the knowledge that four of the RTCAC members are also members of the Friends of the Bruce Freeman Bike Trail group. In addition, two of those four are directors of FBFRT regional advocacy group and have been working for years for a paved bike road from Sudbury to Lowell.
